Best Friends

One of the biggest regrets in my life is that I did not nurture the female friendships I had earlier in my life. I had a couple of friends from school that I was very close to from Jr High into young adulthood. Although we are still in touch and occasionally talk, it is not the same kind of closeness my daughters have with their best friends. Two of my sisters and one of my sisters-in-law have friends that are almost family. I am envious of that. I was too busy being the best wife and mom and employee in those days to understand the importance of outside friendships.

This is my youngest daughter, Allison and her best friend, Laura. They go to different universities but talk to each other just about every day. With cell phones and instant messaging, it is much easier today than it was when I was their age. Click on the page to read the journaling. Do you have a best friend? How long have you known each other?

This paper line is the new Scenic Route Providence. It is so much more feminine than their previous lines. It has the same funky fun colors as before but so much prettier.

(I have corrected this post. I originally said this line was Grafton. I bought that line at the same time. Thank you, Erica, for pointing that out to me.)

I only had five comments yesterday. I'm sure it was because I posted so late. Sorry guys. The winners were #2 Mel and #5 Inara. Please email me with your addy at dettaowens@texasearch.com.

Weird- when I look at yesterday's comments I see only 3. Congrats to the winners!

Like you I didn't nurture any of my friendships from high school. I really don't think I had any very close girlfriends since I was always hanging out with my future husband. I have one girlfriend now that I try to keep up with but if the effort isn't put into at her end there is only so much I can do.

Love today's layout Detta.

I am counting all comments on any post. I had people post on previous days' posts, too.

My hubby has a bunch of friends from high school still in his life. I envy him that. My closest girlfriends are my mom and my cousin. I'm trying to work on that. :D

Erica

PS-I think that Scenic Route line is Providence not Grafton. (Yes, I am obsessed with SR! LOL!)

Dettao,
I have never commented on your blog, but I have looked at it often. Your posts on CKMB are always helpful and kind and I love your sb style, which is why I sometimes link over to check out your blog.

Anyway, I actually have a small group of very close friends. We have all known each other since about high school/early college, but we created a playgroup when we each had our first kids, almost 11 years ago. Now there are 8 kids in our group and they are basically a big group of cousins. I can't imagine my life without these friends and their families. They are precious to me.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and layouts with everyone through your blog.

I have 5 awesome best friends! I was a foster kid, so family wasn't the best support and I learned to seek people I could trust and who were supportive at a pretty early age. I didn't marry until I was 24, so my girlfriends and I remained pretty necessary to each other. Now that I'm barren and my dh just became an over-the-road truck driver, I am so amazingly thankful for my girlfriends. I truly feel I would have died many times over without their love and support.

Me neither....but I had such an eclectic array of friends, that we all went different paths. Now, I look back and regret not making MORE of an effort to keep in touch. All in all, my BEST friends, are my own 3 sisters. There's nothing like family!
