The last day of September

I have completed my September project. It was fun and inspiring and stretched my creativity as well as my organizational skills. Of course, not a lot of housework got done around here but it can be done now. This is my last page. The inspiration was to scrap myself. I have to admit that this is my favorite page of the whole month. It just makes me happy to look at it. Simple but pretty. Curtis took this picture of me at Six Flags last weekend. I cropped it because the original has Seth escaping in the lower left corner of the photo. He was tired of pictures. LOL

Also, here I have included a picture of the completed book. I made a cover and back from chipboard, covered them with MME paper and bound it with my Bind It All. I chose the title after looking in the thesaurus for a word meaning "thoughts." I like that designs has a double meaning that includes art as well as the thought put into it.

One Way to happiness

I have been holding on to the idea for this page all month hoping that one of the inspirations posted at Scrapbook Playground would be to use arrows. That day has finally come and here is my page. This is another example of me taking pictures of things that make me look like a dork. This one way sign is in the drive of the post office. I'd been watching the one way signs on my commute each day hoping to see one in a safe enough place for me to stop and take a picture. I went for a walk a couple of weeks ago to the post office to mail a package and took my camera with me in case there was a photo opportunity of some sort. Right there in the circular drive was my one way sign. I took several pictures from lots of angles and I'm sure those people standing in line inside the door wondered just what the heck that crazy lady was doing. LOL

Playing with color saturation

I got my October issue of Memory Makers Magazine the other day. There is an article called 26 hot trends for 2008. Number 19 was super saturated photos. I've adjusted color and lights and shadows on my photos before but I have never played with the color saturation before. I have these cool photos of the Ferris Wheel from our trip to Six Flags last week and I thought the colors were already pretty but after increasing the saturation, they just popped. I'm not sure how it would work with people's faces in the photo but this turned out very cool. So here is the original picture and my Sept 27 layout with the saturated photo.

Sept 26 Toadstools

Remember my mushroom (toadstool) pictures? Here's a quote page using one of those pictures. I don't really like how the picture looks in the scan. Maybe I should have picked a different one. Today's inspiration was to scrap about Fall, use fall colors or just the word fall. I chose to loosely interpret it and use fall colors since I did an autumn page already this week. By the way, that tree in my autumn picture was actually taken last January when I was doing my January page a day. I just never used it. The trees in Texas right now are still full of leaves even though it is almost October.

If you are wondering what happened to yesterday's page, I had to do something different. The challenge was to use no cardstock. Since I have been doing this album using the DCWV fall stack so all the pages would coordinate and I've been using both side, that one just didn't work for me. Instead, I did a 12 x 12 page using patterned paper, ribbon, tags, and chipboard. You can see it here. Happy scrapping!

Sept 24 Autumn

The scan cut off the left side of the page but there is an even border around the whole thing.

Six Flags, Batman and happy birthday, Jorge

We had a very action packed weekend. Curtis and I took Seth to Six Flags. Now you need to remember that we are both nearly 50 years old and not as young as we used to be. The occasion was for Curtis' company picnic and awards ceremony. Curtis got two awards. Yay for my guy! However, the main event was shepherding a 4 yr old little boy around the park in 90 plus temperatures and trying not to die of heat stroke or exhaustion. We had that little boy back in his mother's arms by 4:30 that afternoon. We actually rode several rides that he was old enough to ride. Rather, I should say that Curtis and Seth rode many of the rides. I can't do much anymore with my back but I had fun taking pictures. The highlight of the day was getting to take his picture with Batman and Robin! He was even wearing his own batman cape when we ran across them. Robin was so sweet. He got Seth to cross his arms and try to look like them in the picture. Pretty cute.

Today, we held a surprise 40th birthday party for my Sister in Law, Georganna. Our ruse was to have an all girl lunch at Don Pablo's. This is something we do pretty regularly. The women in our family will have slumber parties, girls night outs, etc. Today, we were having lunch and holding a tiara making contest. In order to be eligible for the "prize", you had to wear it into the restaurant when you walked in. No fair putting it on after you get to the table. Well, of course, George was the only one who actually did it! Too funny. Another funny thing that happened was that the cake decorator put Happy Birthday, Jorge on the cake! While I know that Jorge is George in Spanish, how in the world did that happen? So, when we sang happy birthday, we sang happy birthday, Jorge!

Sept 23 sisters

I absolutely love that these two very mature sensible women that I raised still giggle like little girls whenever they get together. I just love the music their laughter makes in my house.

Sept 21 morning coffee

Today, I was supposed to scrap my "gotta have" item. I tried to take pictures of my comfy work shoes but I just couldn't make them look good and I couldn't find a good quote about comfy work shoes, either. Since, the first thing I do after I turn on the shower in the mornings is go make a pot of coffee, this is my subject. It just wouldn't be morning unless I had coffee. In fact, the last time we visited Curtis' sister, Brendia who does not do caffeine of any kind, my darling husband got up, got dressed and went into "town" to find a cup for both of us. I guess it is a "gotta have" for him, too.

Sept 20 Outdoors

This little cutie is my niece, Theresa Bernadette. She belongs to my youngest sister and is named after me. One of the fun things about being part of a very large family is that life is never boring. Mary (my baby sister) has twin girls who are now 2 1/2 which, of course, is younger than my 4 year old grandson. My mom has 17 grandchildren ranging in age from 25 to 2. Seth is the only great grandbaby so far. The challenge for today's layout was to use brads.

Sept 19 sunflower

My nephew, Isaac, in Alabama planted this sunflower from a seed and was very proud of it when we visited last spring. I painted on the paper and then ran it through the printer for the quote. The stamps are from Paper Salon.

Sept 18 some kind of ride

My darling husband, Curtis. Isn't he the cutest?

I am a complete dork and I know it

I was driving home and I saw these mushrooms growing on the side of the road near where I live. I thought they looked pretty cool so I actually went home and got my camera. They were on a road that is fairly busy so I had to park on a side street and walk about 50 yards to where they were. I got down on the ground to take some and stood up to take some. I had people honking at me. I wasn't in the road so I'm sure they were honking cause they also thought I was a dork. I've just got to find a quote to pair with them for my Sept project unless you can think of a reason I should scrap pictures of mushrooms on the side of the road.

Sept 17 rain

I'm a day behind on my challenges. Darn job gets in the way of scrapping sometimes. I've had two days in a row of working 10 hours. Yesterday was a productive day and I got a lot done but the main reason I worked late then was because I was going to spend today in another management seminar. It is a three week series and I wish I was learning something new but it is just boring.

Those rain drops are staples.

Sept 16 Money

Sept 15 Strange but true

Curtis and I are always telling each other how weird we think the other one is. It is all in fun and believe me, two weirdos in one marriage makes it pretty fun. Sometimes, it can be annoying to live with this strange man but I really love him! This picture is from Christmas and the sweet man actually wore the antlers I put in his stocking.

Sept 14 Mud

These dirty little legs belong to my niece Sarah. She has three big brothers and lives in the country. Need I say more? She was actually pretty proud of these splatters and asked me to take a picture.

Today's inspiration was to use buttons. I got sleepy last night and didn't glue this down until this morning. I'm glad I waited because the orangy buttons I was going to use last night didn't look as good this morning. I think the white is better. I probably should have used white for the journal strips, too but it's done now. Happy Saturday. Today is Seth's Power Ranger Birthday party. Pictures later!

no page today

I had to take this really boring, waste of a whole day management seminar today that lasted until 5 o'clock and I learned nothing new . Then I had to rush home and wrap Seth's present. Curtis and I had pizza for dinner and then Seth came over to stay while Karen went to class. No scrapping for me but the sweet boy said he's pose for pictures since it was his birthday. I'll catch up on my pages tomorrow.

Happy 4th Birthday to my sweet Seth

The only one I did

Well, the only layout I got done at the crop I went to Saturday night was this one. It's all about the socializing, you know. I just love this picture of Allison. She is the one with the wide open mouth. She and her friends take lots of pictures of each other and they get some of the funnest expressions. The best pictures I have of her were not taken by me. She either took them herself or they were taken by friends. I love that Allison lives life to the fullest and enjoys so much. She is always quick to laugh or make a silly face and still such a joy to be around. Hook 'Em Horns!

Introducing the Scrap Angels

Anyone who reads my blog probably already knows I spend lots of computer time over at the CKMB. I have made lots of friends there. I got to be part of Heart Friends because of contacts made there and the most wonderful thing of all is that I have found a group of ladies that I can scrap with and have fun in person. Before I found these ladies who live in my area, I scrapped alone. I did not know anyone else who scrapped. I still prefer to scrap in my own room with my stuff around me but once a month, I love packing up some stuff to take to Recollections. I pretend like I'm scrapping while I'm really just soaking up the fun times with these very "cool and fun" girls. Marcella and Miffy were the first ones I met and now we have added Lauren and Melissa. We laugh. We use each other's stuff. We tease about who has the most supplies and who will buy the next frenzy first. Here are some pictures of us. Love you guys. Thanks for playing with me once a month.

Art

Allison and I went to the modern art museum before she went back to school. We had a great day and saw some interesting and fascinating stuff.

Bare Feet

I have always loved being barefoot. When we were children, my brothers and sisters and I ran around our neighborhood all summer long without shoes. We learned which yards had stickers and avoided them. If the only alternative was to cross hot pavement, we carefully made our way through those yards and then pulled the stickers out when we made it across. There were many nights that my mom had to pull small splinters from our feet with needles and tweezers after we had washed the black dirt from them so she could even see where that little thing was. I still prefer bare feet. I have learned that most people probably would frown on my bare feet in public places but I never wear shoes around the house. Even in the winter, I am sans shoes. If it is really cold, I might put an afghan over my feet while I lay on the couch. Who invented shoes, anyway? I have learned that I am not alone in this preference. I found this guy. From him, I learned that there is a Society for Barefoot Living.

What is your preference, shoes or no shoes?

Laughter and Noise

Check out my ghost flowers. I punched them out of a coffee can lid and inked them. Don't think I'll ever look at trash the same way again!

Layout for Unpubbed

My September Project

I am doing a layout a day during the month of September. It is for a challenge over at Scrapbook Playground. I have decided to do all of mine as 6x12 pages. That size is big enough to use just a single 4x6 without cropping and not so big that it would take me hours to complete each day. I took this picture of myself last weekend during the on line crop. I just had to do something with it. Here is Sept. 1.
