Eliminated

I just got word that I was eliminated in the contest at Scrapbook Playground. I got pretty far by being in the top five, so I am still proud. Thanks to all who voted for me in the beginning rounds.

Quiet Pride

These are pictures from Father's Day. A few of you have seen this before because I couldn't decide between it and another layout for my Memory Makers Master's Entry. I guess you now know which one I chose. LOL If you click on it, it gets bigger and you can read the journaling.

A thoroughly modern fairy tale

Thanks to my sister, Kathy for my laugh today.

This is the fairy tale that we should have been reading as little Girls!

Once upon a time,
~~~~~~~~
in a land far away,
~~~~~~~~
a beautiful, independent,
~~~~~~~~
self-assured princess
~~~~~~~~
happened upon a frog as she sat,
~~~~~~~~
contemplating ecological issues
~~~~~~~~
on the shores of an unpolluted pond

~~~~~~~~
in a verdant meadow near her castle.
~~~~~~~~
The frog hopped into the princess' lap
~~~~~~~~
and said: Elegant Lady,
~~~~~~~~
I was once a handsome prince,
~~~~~~~~
until an evil witch cast a spell upon me.
~~~~~~~~
One kiss from you, however,
~~~~~~~~
and I will turn back
~~~~~~~~
into the dapper, young prince that I am
~~~~~~~~
and then, my sweet, we can marry
~~~~~~~~
and set up housekeeping in your castle
~~~~~~~~
with my mother,
~~~~~~~~
where you can prepare my meals,
~~~~~~~~
clean my clothes, bear my children,
~~~~~~~~
and forever

~~~~~~~~
feel grateful and happy doing so.
~~~~~~~~
That night,
~~~~~~~~
as the princess dined sumptuously
~~~~~~~~

on lightly sautéed frog legs
~~~~~~~~
seasoned in a white wine
~~~~~~~
and onion cream sauce,
~~~~~~~~
she chuckled and thought to herself:
~~~~~~~~
I don't #%$& think so

This is the story

I've received several very nice comments on the photo I used on my "I wanna talk about me" layout. Thank you all. I took that picture myself using the self timer on my camera. There is more to the story, though. I was working out of town last October for about a month. I came home on weekends but I was there Sunday night until Friday afternoon every week. After going to dinner with my co- workers, I would just hibernate in my room. One night I came in and looked in the mirror and thought to myself, "Gosh, I'm having a good hair day. I need to get a picture of this" LOL I considered taking pictures of myself in the mirror but the bathroom was just too small. I considered going out in the hall to see if anyone was out there to help me but discarded that idea quickly. I really didn't want my co-workers to think I was crazy. After all, I am the boss. Sanity is a good thing in employers. I spied the nice white wall beside my bed and proceeded to have a photo shoot. I put the camera on the bed and sat in the floor and knelt in the floor and leaned sideways and looked over my shoulder and just had myself a good old time. I actually got some pretty darn good shots. This was one of my faves. I got that timer thing going pretty good. On my birthday, the next month, I had a photo shoot in my front yard using the tripod and I posed in front of the long brick wall beside my garage. No telling what my neighbors thought but they don't work for me. ha ha. I am now a big self photo shooter. Love the timer.

I wanna talk about me!

Once I decided what I wanted to do, this came pretty quickly. Here is my page for challenge 6 of the contest at Scrapbook Playground. Thank you, Toby Keith for the inspiration. LOL

Made the Top 5

I survived another week at Scrapbook playground and am now one of the 5 remaining scrappers. This week's challenge is to scrap about me. I need to scrap about my perfect day, real or fictional or with 10 factoids about myself. I have a couple of ideas floating around in my head. I just need to try them out.

She laughs

I did this layout for the challenge at http://unpubbed.blogspot.com/. This is Allison with her mouth wide open in a great big laugh. I didn't take this picture. One of her friends did. Isn't it amazing that she is so beautiful even with that expression on her face? Her laugh is infectious. I found this quote in a book of vellum quotes today when I was purging my supplies. The sound of girls laughing really is one of my favorite sounds. I got to use my new fontwerk's Steelfish stamps. Aren't they cool?

New Layout

Thank you friends for voting for me at Scrapbook Playground. I barely squeaked through one more round. The next four rounds will be judged by the Design team rather than voted on by the public. This week's challenge was to use the colors yellow, brown and blue and to use a frame on your page. This is what I came up with. I opted to use my frames as a design element rather than for framing the photo. I didn't have a 5x7 frame, anyway and there is no money for this girl to spend this week. LOL Allison suggested I use this photo when I was searching through pictures to match this color scheme. I guess that means she likes it. She's the one who gets most annoyed at me when I pull out the camera.

Behind this door

Today is an exciting day. I got to play in my scrap room and create something that was not intended for a challenge or a contest or a special project. I've been admiring the 6x12 pages I'm seeing people do. I've seen them done by my friends Renee and Kimmie. Then, today, I saw that the new HOFer, Mitchell Kraft is a fan of that size, too. Originally, I wrote the journaling for this page when I was going to do a layout based on the new Brooks and Dunn song, I'm proud of the house we built. I loved what it has to say about being a family and being in love. I went out and took pictures of my house and just did not like them. Then I looked at my front door and thought, " I should change the journaling to say "behind this door" instead of "in this house." This is my creation. Click on it to enlarge and read the journaling.

The winner of my RAK

Thanks for sharing the songs that speak to you. I enjoyed reading them. My sisters and nieces are all going to give me theirs and I'm going to make a mini book with them. The winner of my RAK is Buzzcut! I will email you to get your mailing address.

Voting is open at Scrapbook Playground. This is the last week of public voting. Two people will be eliminated. Here is the link. Thanks for being my friends!

Still in the game at Scrapbook Playground

Here is the layout I created using "dated" product for this week's challenge at Scrapbook Playground. I used a plastic slide mount, a metal charm, magic mesh and a hat pin. This is the last week for public voting. After this round, only the design team will be judging layouts. The journaling is from a new Kenny Chesney Song that speaks to me right now. Be sure and tell me about a song that speaks to you in my previous entry and I will draw names on Saturday for some Heidi Swapp Chipboard letters.

Do you have a song that speaks to you?

On the 4th of July, my niece was telling me how every time she hears the song "Wide Open Spaces" by the Dixie Chicks, she is reminded of her first drive to college with her mother and how they sang to it. She said that every time her mother would call her that first semester, she would hear that song playing in the background. I also have a song that speaks to me. If you knew me, you would probably laugh but it was definitely me back then. The 70s were some wonderful years.

To this day, whenever I hear the song, Radar Love by Golden Earring, I’m seventeen years old again. I’m in the car with Curtis, the windows are rolled down, and we are just driving around enjoying being in love. The radio is blaring. Our whole lives are ahead of us. Things are so simple and life is good.

When she's lonely and the longing gets too much
She sends a cable comin' in from above
We don't need no phone at all
We've got a thing that's called radar love
We've got a wave in the air, radar love

Do you have a song that speaks to you? Tell me about it. Everyone who responds will go into a drawing for a set of Heidi Swapp chipboard letters. I'll draw on Saturday.

Also, Thanks to all who voted for me over at Scrapbook Playground. I have moved on to another round. The challenge this week is to use 3 items from my stash that might be considered "dated." This is a challenge for me. I really only have a huge stash of paper, chipboard, buttons and flowers. There are a few things tucked away that I have some ideas for, though. I've just never been an embellishment hoarder.

And I have moved on at Scrapbook Playground

I have made it into round three. This week's challenge was to use a joke or a riddle on your layout and a sticker of some sort. Letter and word stickers do not count. I am so NOT a sticker person except for words, letters and the occasional flower. I sold most of my stash at a garage sale last summer. The only stickers I owned were some rolls of Heidi Swapp tape and a few cute border stickers I got for $1 at Big Lots a couple of weeks ago. I had to go buy some stickers. It was tough choosing some. Flowers would have been easy and not much of a challenge. I use flowers all the time. When I saw these cute little farm animals, I remembered this picture of Seth wearing the "farmer" hat. I came home and looked for farm animal jokes. Found this one about pigs and decided to use it. Sure hope others like it enough to vote for it.

On a different note, I am so tired of rain. We've had thunderstorms every afternoon for almost two weeks. The water is standing an inch deep in our yard all the time. Our power was out for three hours today during and after the storm. Had more water come in under the bedroom wall cause the water rose so high between the houses. I never thought I'd say this but where is our Texas 100 degree summer?
