Daddies and Daughters

There is always such a special relationship between most Daddies and daughters. Curtis and Karen are no exception to this. They were best buddies when she was little but then became somewhat wary of each other when she reached those teenage moody years. He didn't understand her need to be so independent and she didn't understand his need to know everything. In addition, they have such similar personalities that discussions would often become heated. There were many young men who thought her Daddy was a very scary man, too. As she became older, though, they began to understand each other better and often found common things to laugh at and enjoy. He is still her protector and her advocate even while sometimes being her biggest critic. A week or so after Christmas, we were sitting around the kitchen table and they had this conversation.

Karen: So, Daddy, are you going to walk me down the aisle?
Curtis: I'm thinking that is up to you.
Karen: I think I'd like that.
Curtis: Then, I guess I will.
Karen: Okay, then.

I almost laughed out loud but didn't. I did have that great big old smile inside my heart, though.

Now, Karen has decided that she wants their father/daughter dance at the wedding to be to a classic rock song since that is the kind of music Curtis listens to and she grew up hearing in his car. (We listen to country in my car) She called and asked me to ask him if he had an idea for a song. His answer? "A short one!"

Here's where you guys come in. I think I like Rod Stewart's "Have I told you lately that I love you? I listened to it on line and read the words and I got teary eyed thinking of them dancing together. I seem to be doing that a lot lately. LOL Do you have any suggestions?

Ooh, that's a pretty song (just listened to it online!) It makes me teary eyed too! It's a little long, at 4 minutes, but maybe they could fade it out... At my wedding, Dad and I danced to Louis Armstrong's "It's a Wonderful World"... but I like this one better! Have the tissues handy!

Those pictures are just absolutely precious!!!!!! I love them!

I say you should ask themif there are any particular songs they remember singing together when she was little. I think that would even be more special than picking out a more generic song. That being said...I do love the Rod Stewart song. And I also like anything by James Taylor!!!

(My girls both had songs that their Pop sang to them as babies and little girls, so I can anticipate those being their songs to dance to with him...and boy will I CRY!!)

That's a sweet post. My Dad's name is Curtis - hehe.

I also dropped by because I wanted to let you know about and invite you to an online crop that I'm hosting on another board! The info is on my blog! I hope you'll join us. It's a smaller message board, but everyone over there is great.

Take care, Julie

Detta, You're a genius! We are hoping for a boy. I would like to mix things up and finally get away from always buying pink bazzill in bulk! Allen would just really like a boy. However, I love the way you put a third girl as "three of a kind." We're both big poker players (military thing, I guess), and if we do get a third girl, that will surely soften the blow for Allen. In fact, it will give him something to brag about at the poker games!

I think that "Have I told you lately that I love you" would be a perfect song.

My personal favorite is "Butterfly Kisses". "Wind Beneath My Wings" is great, too.

How about another Rod Stewart song, "Hot Legs"? Ha ha ha ha! Just joking. I'll have to think about that a bit. Have I told you lately is good but it's kinda long like cindy said. Why don't you ask Karen what her fav songs were listening in the car while riding with her dad? There's a song that I hear that forever reminds me of my dad. It's "My Girl" by the Temptations (I think). I cry when I hear it.
Love those precious photos. Exciting times for you! Can't wait to watch it all unfold!
